Helicopter Aerodynamics Without Equations

This unique one day program on helicopter aerodynamics instructed by Ray Prouty. The program will cover many educational topics. The program will run from 8am - 5pm.

  Hover Flight
Downwash, brownout, power required, Figure of Merit considerations.

Vertical Flight
Power required for climb. vertical autorotation, power settling, tail rotor in the vortex ring state.

Forward Flight
Power required, control to maintain trim, maximum speed,compressibility effects, retreating blade stall.

Maneuvering
Steady turns, pull-ups, pitch-overs, autorotation, air show maneuvers.

Static Stability
Speed stability, maneuver stability.

Dynamic Stability
Longitudinal modes (short period, phugoid), Lateral-directiona modes (Dutch roll, spiral dive).
